Send a Strip!!!

The latest on our project is that Gretna sent us a van load and it arrived today.. It took the whole of our class to sort through it. They sent bout 13 boxes. Some big and small.. They also sent us last seasons match worn strips with all the official badges and stuff on them. A box arrived today from Queen of the South. They sent us 14 strips which is class. On saturday the Morton Chairman included in his pre match column all about our project and how he would hand deliver any strips which are sent to him... Clyde put a double page advert in their Match programme which included my p6 pupils letter and my own.again which was great... So just waiting to hear back from some of the northern clubs like Aberdeen and Inverness Caley etc... The responce has been amazing..Some of the staff are striking tommorow for some reason so the kids aint in-which is class as I can get some time to plan my next steps... I'll keep you posted....

Send a strip-Latest!!!

Hi all, just to let you all know the latest on our Football strip project. As it stands today we have 390 tops and about 150 shorts and socks. This project has just been amazing. We recieved 2 phone calls this morning. One was from kilmarnock. They were brilliant, they are going to send a box of kits to the school. Then Gretna Fc phoned. There chairman is a millionaire and he owns a sportswear company. He personally is paying for a transit van load of Strips and tracksuits to be delivered to the school. Is that not amazing..the whole project has got massive and we have not heard back from 23 professional football teams yet... Clyde Fc phoned tonight. The guy on the phone was sound..He was dead encouraging and said they would get some last seasons kits and send them to the school..Dougie has a mate called Skoogs and he is getting us a shed load of stuff for the project.. Man..I'm actually feeling quite moved by all this... the generosity of some people is outstanding... Anyway not finished yet... If any of you guys know of means of charity funding then please let me know.. I get the feeling this is not gonna be cheap to get this stuff out there..those of you who believe please pray that somehow provision for this stuff to get out to the kids will be provided... Speak soon all!!!

Out of control!!

hey people... a couple of weeks ago my class and I embarked on a small journey!! By chance a number of Langauge activities led to discussions about poverty in the world and why did we have so much and other countries so little.. We decided to try and help somebody else who was less fortunate than ourselves. I told the kids of an idea which I had had bout making a huge football strip picture in the playground using old football strips. I would then want to send then to a school or organisation which would enjoy this small gift. The kids in my class thought this was a great idea and so we began.. We decided to bring our (class) old tops in first and see how big our picture was with just our tops. We tried this a week ago. We had 42 tops and various shorts and socks. It looked great but it wasn't that big. We started making posters and leaflets to send home to each family in the school. These were sent home 2 Fridays ago. The responce was amazing. We got another 40 last Monday. By Wed we had 160 and Friday 220. This morning a boy in my class brought in 100 tops and shorts and socks..his dad has some cool contacts... By the end of today we have 340... We are going to send them to a village in South Africa called Venda. Our school chaplain has contacts there and she was involved in raising money for and building a school out there..The stories of these kids is tradgic so maybe a football strip might bring a wee smile to there faces... anyway with a bit of luck I'll manage out to south Africa myself to hand these strips out.. The strips will be worn and sold by the school to help raise money for clean water.. sobering thought eh... Im so excited about this whole project.. We have written to 27 scottish football teams to ask for there help so we'll see what comes of that.. Please guys if you have any old tops you dont wear get in contact with me and I'll arrange to get them from you..Your help would be som much appreciated and thanks to those who have given already...

Long time...

Hi people.. its been a while but I'm back.. Since I last updated I have become a dad for the first time.. what a superb experience! Carol my wife had a hard time for the week before Jack was born. For all you girls he was 9lbs 2 which is big for all u boys... Its something that I have been asked loads of time -What weight were you when you were born? I don't know..why would you ask a question like that....anyway Jack is great so far, he's dead laid back and when he's not sleeping he's happy to look about which is great.. Can't quite get past the fact I'm a dad but hey I'm 27 so thats quite old..

Also I have HMI inspectors who have arrived at the school. For those of you who dont know- thats quite a big deal. It involves a lot of work and its all a bit nerve wracking!! So far so good. They came today and seem nice which is good. The kids in my class met them and they said they were nice which from what I hear is not always the case.. Anyway we appear to be very fortunate.

Must go now, hope everybody has a great new year!

Baby is coming!!

Well the last 3 days have been the pretty mad.. My wife Carol is due to give birth to my first child. Woke up on Tue morning to find out Carol had been having contractions all night. I thought then, that this is it.. Went into work as these things take ages but my boss sent me home. Anyway things progressed, Carol still having regular contractions. The pain got worse and the hospital told us to come up. (3pm). They checked carol and sent us home as the midwife said there was still a lot of time before Baby was going to come.. So we went home and nothing happened for the rest of the night.. got up Wed morn and nothing new had happened . Went to work as usual and my boss sent me home at lunch as wasn't needed due to Christmas activities.. So into Wed evening nothing still happening-until midnight.. WATERS BREAK.. This was funny! Carol was laughing and I was relieved that something was finally happening. So its 2am and the contractions are soarer and closer together. Just been for a walk along Gourock front as midwife said to keep active. We are going to the Hospital at 6am this morn if not before... So here I am probabaly my last night without a child.. Mad mental thought.. Hope for Carols sake it goes ok.. Who am I kidding and mines!! Hope I dont faint or do anythin completely stupid. Prayers would be welcomed guys!! Well speak soon and hope I have something to report later on today!!

Manic tooo!!!

My life is so hectic right now.. dont know if it's the dark nights that make it feel later than it is all the time or if things are just getting busier!! My moan of the day is disobedience!!! There are children- good nice kids who honestly dont know what it is to be obedient..Not talking about what the word means but the whole concept of it! Its quite an easy thing really if an adult who is responsible for you tells you to do something then you do it!! I think ( now that I'm past the age) we should start military national service at the age of 8.. I'm sure that would work!! Funny I'm writing this and remembering at the same time what I was like as a child in class- although I was always acting the clown I dont think I was as blatantly disobedient as the middle class kids who do not have hard lives are in my class..
Anyway I'll fight on to make then good!! It has been one of those headbanging days when you feel as if you have got nowhere despite a load of work and effort!!

Been reading my bible loads recently- big chunks at a time to try and help my understanding of it!! I have been really enjoying trying to piece it all altogether.. This is in responce to Eric from Botswana s testimony about revival in his country.. I have been reading Pauls letters- its mad how in thousands of years things have changed so much ie technology but the letters still address the same people with the same problems!! I see the letters in a whole other way, if you read and understand them but dont do as they instruct ( or make no attempt) then in a way you are being disobedient!!! Very challenged right....

Anyway 3 weeks Friday long lies end!! Looking forward to wee Angus or Tinkerbell being born..should be a ball!!Got rugby training tonight so probably wont update for a while due to broken bones!!
Onwards and Upwards!!

I thought tou finished getting spots at 16 but NO... I've never really had spots at any time in my life so this morning was quite hard to take..

Man what a week.. SOOOO glad its Friday. Had a great time with the Primary 7s at Rugby training today. Its brilliant to see a whole load of boys joining in a new sport all at the same ability level. Football as a sportis so dominant amongst the boys and it been great having boys come along who's only sport was Pokemon cards!! We have a great grass area which unfortunately is waterlogged as it would be carcking to get them out on the grass for a real shot. I learned recently that the SRU coach who organises the coaching used to play for the Rugby league team Bradford Bulls..quite cool eh. Think they just won a major comp in England!
(8)
C(5)

Just back from a school public speaking contest in which a few of my pupils were taking part. It was the school final. One of my kids won which was great until I realised I'm expected to go and see her perform in future competitions.. (eh NO) The speeches were over fairly quickly and on the whole were quite entertaining but not worth missing the student meeting for..The guys who put these comps on are really decent but a bit eccentric.
Bible Readings...

On Sunday we as a young peoples group had a particuarly good meeting. We raised a lot of issues- the main one being the time we give too praying, reading the bible and generally spending time with our Lord Jesus. Dug made an excellent point that he had heard someone preach about tything. That tything was not only 10% of your money but also of your time which works out about 2 and a half hours a day. Like everyone else we all live a very busy life but should our time for Christ be left to the end of the day for half hour (or even) or should we be re-arranging our time that God takes a more central role.. Of course we should but do we? We talked about having your time alone with Christ before you take part in any earthly pleasures whether that be internet, sport, socialising or even just reading( all ok things too do) but Christ should come first and other activities later. The idea behind the numbers in brackets is for us too mark our bible readings. The number says how many chapters we have read of the bible that day. It is soooo NOT a competition or a spiritual ego boost but to simply log each day that we have spent time with the Lord. People are free to opt in or out as they please but I personally have found it excellent as I have been looking at Romans. The amount of chapters you read is not to take away from any quiet time you already have but its too help us spend time with him. I was particuarly touched by what Eric had to say about Revival in South Africa at the Fire Conference and again on Sat night. About him reading the bible 8 times through and then the New testament 40 times through at a rate of 40 chapters a day. I am no way going to be able to manage that but half hour a day is not too much to ask on my behalf and am already greatly feeling the benefit of it! I hope this is clear and people feel as challenged as I do right now - lets try and take our eyes of ourselves and back on him! Onwards and upwards!!

Tuesday!!

Had another footabll tournament with the P7 boys..Gutted.. This time they played well and got stuck right in only to miss out on the next round due to goal difference- well harsh.. Anyway at least they won a few this time. Last night had such a laugh at Jo's Birthday night. Lorna produced this amazing 80's quiz which was such a trip down memory lane! One of the main debating points was the main trainers you wore - I said Adidas kick as did Fraser but the answer was Nike air jordan.. Well done Lorna- what a laugh!!! (0) yet!!

What a week..

Man I'm glad its friday..Had some week in school. Think it started with Halloween on Monday! Kids have been hyper and very badly behaved all week.. The children are involved in a speech competition right now which is great but having to listen to the same speeches over and over is painful..Some of the kids are dead funny and have put a lot of work into them but some of the titles and talks are mental.. Anyway back home to do some work before going back to P.e after playtime!! Got rugby with the P7 boys after school which should be a laugh.. We are going on the grass so we'll be bogging by the end of it!!

Meeting excellent last night- and what a welcome I had!! Can someone please explain in detail what Andy was saying when I arrived ( due to traffic) extremely late!!
oh to top of my week our school got a new laminator.. this doesnt happen very often - guess who was responsible for it breaking it?

Pretend Shop!!

Well today trops I had a ball!!!! When your in primary 1 and maybe in primary 2 you play with shops and pretend to buy things for fun supposedly!! I played in the house corner- well fought in the house corner with my pal BOAB ( fat ).. Anyway I made a cool shop for one of my strugglin kids as he is finding learning about money 'well ard'... What a hoot- its called Jamies Junk and he s got the lot from the bleeper thing that reads bar codes to a till and junk to sell.. cant believe i enjoyed making this but the alternative was Maths and Language.. Maybe the latter are more important but there must be some educational benefit of painting a shop..
